TEAM “RAMAJAY” TAKES TARPON THUNDER TITLE.

  

Team “Ramajay” beat 17 other teams to win the Trinidad and Tobago Game Fishing Association (TTGFA) 10th Annual Tarpon Thunder Tournament, hosted at the Island Yacht Charters, Gasparee Island on August 13th and 14th 2016.

 

The victorious crew that was captained by Michael Ross accumulated a total of 2300 points over the two-day tournament. These points were tallied from releasing 22 Tarpons or “Silver Kings” as the fishing community often calls them.

 

Captain Sean Mendonca and his team “Waash” came in second with 1900 points as they released 19 Tarpon, followed by Captain Christian Bernard and team on “D’Rog” (1500) points with 12 releases).

 

Tournament Chairman Jonathan De La Rosa told the audience that he was pleased with the turnout for the Tournament and thanked the sponsors for their continued support at the prize giving on Sunday 14th August at the Island Yacht Charters, Gasparee Islands.  Sponsors included: Carib Brewery, Real Marketing Ltd, Purity Water, LP Marine and Industrial Supplies, Advance Foam Limited, Island Yacht Charters, Reel Tackle & Seafood Ltd, Monsta Tarpon and The Ministry of Sport.

 

Susan Persad on the Boat ‘Taz’ won the Best Female Angler prize with 300 points. Isaiah Aleong won the impressive Best Junior Angler prize as well as 2nd Place in overall angler with his 600 points.  Best Overall Angler honors went to Christian Valdez fishing on “Ramajay”. He accumulated an impressive 700 points, and 3rd place went to Paul Hamel- Smith on the boat ‘ ‘Waash’ with 500 points.

 

De La Rosa also thanked all of the anglers for their participation, as well as the many persons who assisted with making the tournament a success.  A message of conservation was once again conveyed to all, and the anglers were applauded for the live release of all Tarpon caught and unharmed.
